Enlargement of the breast tissue during pregnancy can cause many women to round the shoulders forward, creating a rounded upper back. Also problematic is the shortness of breath experienced by many due to the increase of fluid in the body during pregnancy.
This video is a series of exercises that I often teach in my classes to open the shoulders, upper chest, and side body. It is great to use when you need to find length in the upper body to breathe into. It helps to stretch the ribcage away from the waist and belly, essentially creating a sense of spaciousness in this area.
Try this also after the baby is born to relive the discomforts that come with feeding 8-12 times a day in those first few weeks. This will counter the rounding forward of the shoulders, and a slouching posture. It will also help to increase circulation to the lymph nodes and breast tissue.
